The New England Patriots announced Tuesday that they’ve signed former Bengals RB Rex Burkhead to a contract.
Burkhead recently met with New England after he left his visit with the Falcons without an agreement.
This is a really interesting signing for the Patriots, as some believe Burkhead may actually prove to be the best running back available in this year’s free agent class.
Overall, the Patriots are pretty deep at the running back position, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out for them this summer.
Burkhead, 26, is a former sixth-round pick of the Bengals back in 2013. He played out his four-year, $2,262,200 contract with the Bengals and was testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career.
In 2016, Burkhead appeared in all 16 games for the Bengals and rushed for 344 yards on 74 carries (4.6 YPC) to go9
