Positive Signs For Packers S Nick Collins

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Packers FS Nick Collins has been “bouncing off the walls in anticipation of returning” to the NFL next season.

Silverstein spoke with assistant professor of spine surgery at Northwestern University Wellington Hsu about the chances of players returning from cervical fusion procedures, and it appears that Collins should have a pretty good of playing next season.

A lot of people think neck surgery, you’ll never be able to play again,” said Hsu. “In fact, no, you can get back to playing, and you can play at a high level.”

Hsu actually conducted a 20-year study of NFL players who suffered the same injury Collins so this is a pretty solid perspective on the overall situation.

The Packers have been fairly cautious when discussing Collins’ return to the NFL. Head coach Mike McCarthy has said that Collins will have to convince everyone from the staff, to their doctors that he’s ready and able to play before they agree to anything.

Green Bay could really use Collins back next season, but he’ll still have to wait to see how things play out in the coming weeks.
