Raiders Expected To Have Interest In QB Marcus Mariota

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media said Friday on “NFL Now” (per Gregg Rosenthal) that the Raiders have some interest in Titans free agent QB Marcus Mariota as a potential backup option.

Garafolo mentioned that the Raiders could target a “1B” quarterback option like Mariota, as opposed to going after Tom Brady this offseason.

Garafolo notes that Raiders GM Mike Mayock previously had Mariota rated as his No. 1 quarterback back in the 2015 draft. The Raiders are expected to consider other quarterback options this offseason, but they could be in the mix to sign Mariota.

Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network reported a few weeks ago that the Patriots and Colts could be teams to watch for Mariota.

Mariota figures to be one of the more interesting quarterbacks to watch this offseason, given that he showed some promise early in his career before losing his starting to job to Ryan Tannehill last year. Although, he may have to settle for a backup job with an opportunity to compete for a starting job this summer.

Mariota, 26, is a former No. 2 overall pick of the Titans back in 2015.  He signed a four-year, $24.214 million rookie contract thatโ€™s fully guaranteed.

The Titans picked up Mariota’s fifth-year option back in April worth $20.922 million for the 2019 season. Mariota will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career this offseason.

In 2019, Mariota appeared in seven games for the Titans and completed 59.4 percent of passes for 1,203 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 129 yards. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 27 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.

We have him included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.
