Rams “Front-Runner” To Sign DT Ndamukong Suh

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports the Rams “appear to be the front-runner” to sign DT Ndamukong Suh.

According to Rapoport, Suh hasn’t ruled the Titans or Saints out and he’s reportedly still keeping open-minded. However, the Rams are the team to beat for him right now.

Larry Holder reports that the Saints are still interested in Suh, but as of now, the team is in “wait and see” mode as far as actually signing him to a contract. A source tells Holder that the Saints have no plans to get into a bidding war for Suh.

On Sunday, Jets owner Christopher Johnson told reports at the Owners meeting in Orlando that they’ve rescinded their offer to Suh.

Johnson explained that adding Suh “wasn’t in keeping with our long-term plan,” and the agreed to rescind their offer after he spoke with GM Mike Maccagnan. According to Johnson, HC Todd Bowles was not involved in the meeting.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Suh to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

Suh, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Lions back in 2010. He spent five years in Detroit before signing a six-year, $114 million contract that included $60 million guaranteed with the Dolphins a few years ago.

Suh was set to make base salaries of $16.985 million (2018), $18.985 million (2019), and $18.36 million (2020) over the remainder of the contract when the Dolphins designated him as a post-June 1 release.

In 2017, Suh appeared in all 16 games for the Dolphins and recorded 48 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 interior defender out of 122 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
