Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Rams are worth keeping an eye on for free agent OLB Clay Matthews.
Rapoport explains that Matthews lives in Los Angeles and Rams DC Wade Phillips has done a good job of getting a lot out of veteran players over the years, so this could be a good fit.
Mike Garafolo explains that part of the reason Matthews’ market has been delayed is because of the birth of his third child. Garafolo explains that Matthews is balancing free agency and his home life.
There’s reportedly “significant” interest in Matthews, but he’s weighing the factors that matter most.
Matthews, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Packers back in 2009. He played out the final year of his six-year, $69.73 million contract and made a base salary of $10.4 million for the 2018 season.
Matthews is testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career this offseason.
In 2018, Matthews appeared in all 16 games for the Packers and recorded 43 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 59 edge rusher out of 103 qualifying players.
We have him featured in our Top 100 Available Free Agents list.
