John Keim of ESPN.com spoke withย an NFL executiveย who believes the Redskins would be able to secure a third-round pickย “at most” in return for QBย Kirk Cousins.
Keim adds that there hasn’t beenย any movement towards a potential Cousins trade in recent months, but expects there to be at least some discussion during the draft regarding the idea.
Keim specifically mentions that the Browns opinion of QBย Brian Hoyer and the prospects in this year’s draft will be “key in this equation.”
Keim’s source believes this year’s quarterback class is decent enough that teams won’t need to trade for a quarterback unless they believe he’s capable of being starter for them.
Cousins has consistently been linked to the Browns given that they hired former Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan to run their offense. However, it appears as though the Browns have their focus elsewhere given that they have worked out nearly every quarterback prospect and signed veterans Vince Young and Tyler Thigpen earlier this week.
Cousins, 25, appeared in five games for the Redskins last year and completedย 52.3 percent of his passes forย 854 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions.
He started Washington’s final three games of the season after the team elected to benchย Robert Griffinย III, but they wound up losing all three contests.
