Redskins Won’t Pick Up WR Josh Doctson’s Fifth-Year Option

According to J.P. Finlay, the Redskins have told WR Josh Doctson they won’t pick up his fifth-year option.

This move will make Doctson an unrestricted free agent following the 2019 season.

Doctson, 26, was taken in the first round out of TCU in 2016 by the Redskins. He signed a four-year, $10.049 million contract and is slated to make a base salary of $1,820,406 for the 2019 season.

Doctson’s fifth-year option would have been worth $10.2 million according to Kareem Copeland of the Washington Post, and would have been guaranteed for injury only until the first day of the 2020 league year.

In 2018, Doctson appeared in 15 games for the Redskins and caught 44 passes for 532 yards receiving (12.1 YPC) and two touchdowns.
