Report: 49ers Considering Re-Doing LT Joe Staleyโ€™s Contract

Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports reported Friday that the 49ers are considering โ€œre-doingโ€ LT Joe Staleyโ€˜s contract at some point in the near future.

  • According to Getlinโ€™s sources, Staley has โ€œoutplayedโ€ his current contract.
  • Getlinโ€™s sources added that the 49ers recognizes that it would be a smart move to approach Staley now and prevent him from becoming โ€œdisenchantedโ€ with his contract situation.

Staley, 29, signed a nine-year, $43.66 million contract that included $18 million guaranteed back in 2009. He still has four years remaining on his contract and stands to make just $2.7 million for the 2014 season.

As of now, Staley has a $3.4 million cap figure, which is pretty good for a top-10 left tackle.

Staley hasnโ€™t missed a single game in the past three seasons. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 6 offensive tackle in the league with very good ratings in both run and pass-blocking.
