Rand Getlinย of Yahoo Sports reported Friday that the 49ers are considering “re-doing” LT Joe Staley‘s contract at some point in the near future.
- According to Getlin’s sources, Staley has “outplayed” his current contract.
- Getlin’s sources added thatย the 49ers recognizes that it would be a smart move to approach Staleyย now and prevent him from becoming “disenchanted” with his contract situation.
Staley, 29, signed aย nine-year, $43.66 million contract that included $18 million guaranteed back in 2009. He still has four years remaining on his contract and stands to make justย $2.7 million for the 2014 season.
As of now, Staley has aย $3.4 million cap figure, which is pretty good for a top-10 left tackle.
Staley hasn’t missed a single game in the past three seasons.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 6 offensive tackle in the league with very good ratings in both run and pass-blocking.
