Albert Breer of the NFL Network reports thatย the Patriots and NT Vince Wilfork have discussed a contract extension this offseason.
- However, Breer adds that the two sides are not close to reaching an agreement at this point in time.
Wilfork, 32, is coming off of an Achilles’ injury and is entering the final year of hisย five-year, $40 million contract that included $25 million guaranteed.
His cap figure for theย 2014 season sits at $11.6 million, and New England would free up $8 million in cap space by releasing, according toย OverTheCap.com.
The Patriots currently do not have a replacement forย Wilfork on their roster and they just released Isaacย Sopoaga earlier today. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were able to get a contract extension worked at some point this offseason.
