On Friday, the Steelers announced that they will not renew the contract of OLBs coach Joey Porter.
Here’s the statement from HC Mike Tomlin:
“I have informed outside linebackers coach Joey Porter that we will not renew his contract. These are difficult decisions when it comes to someone like Joey who has meant a lot to this organization as both a player and coach. I want to thank Joey for his coaching efforts over the past five years on our defensive staff. We wish him the best in his future coaching career.”
It would not be surprising to see more changes made to the Steelers’ coaching staff in the coming days.
Porter, 41, is a former third-round pick of the Steelers back in 1999. He played 13 seasons in the NFL before retiring in 2011.
Porter worked as a defensive assistant for Colorado State before the Steelers hired him in 2014. Pittsburgh promoted Porter to OLBs coach for the 2015 season.
