Albert Breer ofย the NFL Networkย reports that the Steelers and Troy Polamalu “aren’t too, too far off” which basically means that they’re closer thanย previouslyย reported but still have work to be done if a deal is going to be reached before the Sunday.
Usually players and teams try to prevent carrying negotiations into the season as it can become a distraction for the team which is why the Steelers have decided to make another run at getting an agreement in place. It’s still looking like there’s not enough time but things can change quickly depending on the their motivations.

Ed Bouchette of theย Pittsburgh Post-Gazetteย reports that the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to work on the a new contract for Pro Bowl safetyย Troy Polamalu.
Talks broke down a few weeks ago but Bouchette reports that Steelers presidentย Art Rooneyย โhad a change of heartโ and decided to give it another go.
Pittsburgh is trying to get a deal done before the start of the season likely because they wouldnโt be willing to carry negotiations on into the season.
Polamalu will be one of the topย free agentsย if he hits the open market but the Steelers will have their franchise tag in case something isnโt worked out. We have him listed as the No. 9 best available player in ourย Top 50 Free Agentsย list.
