Steelers Getting Closer To A Deal With Troy Polamalu?

Albert Breer of the NFL Network reports that the Steelers and Troy Polamalu “aren’t too, too far off” which basically means that they’re closer than previously reported but still have work to be done if a deal is going to be reached before the Sunday.

Usually players and teams try to prevent carrying negotiations into the season as it can become a distraction for the team which is why the Steelers have decided to make another run at getting an agreement in place. It’s still looking like there’s not enough time but things can change quickly depending on the their motivations.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to work on the a new contract for Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu.

Talks broke down a few weeks ago but Bouchette reports that Steelers president Art Rooney “had a change of heart” and decided to give it another go.

Pittsburgh is trying to get a deal done before the start of the season likely because they wouldn’t be willing to carry negotiations on into the season.

Polamalu will be one of the top free agents if he hits the open market but the Steelers will have their franchise tag in case something isn’t worked out. We have him listed as the No. 9 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
