The Pittsburgh Steelers recentlyย restructuredย RT Marcus Gilbert‘s contract and in turn freed up $2,392,500 in cap space, according to Ian Whetstone.
This move reducesย Gilbert’s 2016 cap figure fromย $6.461 million down to $4,068,500. Whetstone adds thatย Gilbert’s cap hits movingย forward are now: $7,308,500 (2017), $7,358,500 (2018) and $6,643,603 (2019).
Gilbert, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Steelers back in 2011. He is currently in the third year of his six-year, $30.815 million contractย thatย included a $7.65 million signing bonus and was set to make a base salary ofย $3.95 million for the 2016 season.
In 2015, Gilbert appeared in all 16 games for the Steelers and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 28 offensive tackle out of 77 qualifying players.
