Steelers Restructure OT Marcus Gilbert’s Contract, Pick Up $2.39M Of Cap Room

The Pittsburgh Steelers recently restructured RT Marcus Gilbert‘s contract and in turn freed up $2,392,500 in cap space, according to Ian Whetstone.

This move reduces Gilbert’s 2016 cap figure from $6.461 million down to $4,068,500. Whetstone adds that Gilbert’s cap hits moving forward are now: $7,308,500 (2017), $7,358,500 (2018) and $6,643,603 (2019).

Gilbert, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Steelers back in 2011. He is currently in the third year of his six-year, $30.815 million contract that included a $7.65 million signing bonus and was set to make a base salary of $3.95 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Gilbert appeared in all 16 games for the Steelers and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 28 offensive tackle out of 77 qualifying players.
