The San Francisco 49ers announced Tuesday that they’ve signed WR Ryan Whalen to a contract and placed S Jered Bell on waivers with an injury designation.
Should Bell clear waivers tomorrow, he would revert to the team’s injured reserve list.
Whalen, 27, is a former sixth-round pick of the Bengals back in 2011. He spent a little over three years in Cincinnati before they placed him on waivers at the start of the 2014 season.
Whalen caught onw ith the Vikings during the preseason last year, but was waived just a few days before the start of the regular season.
In 2013, Whalen appeared in four games for the Bengals, but didn’t record a single statistic.
Bell, 24, wound up going undrafted out of Colorado back in May, but was signed to a contract by the 49ers.
