Adam Schefter and Field Yates are reporting that Bengals TE Tyler Eifert is in Los Angeles and deciding whether to undergo a third back surgery, which would end his 2017 season.

The expectation was that Eifert was likely to miss multiple weeks while recovering from back injury, but didn’t appear as though it was going to require surgery at the time.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the situation is worse than the Bengals and Eifert anticipated.

Eifert, 27, is a first-round pick of the Bengals back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $8.256 million contract and is playing out the 2017 season under the fifth-year option.

Eifert will make $4.782 million in 2017 before becoming an unrestricted free agent next year. He is in a position to be an unrestricted free agent next offseason and could be among the best available players.

In 2017, Eifert has appeared in two games and caught four passes for 46 yards receiving and no touchdowns for the Bengals.

We have him featured in our Top 25 – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
