Dolphins Expected To Release C Mike Pouncey

Adam Schefter reports that Dolphins center Mike Pouncey has requested his released and Miami is expected to grant it today.

Pouncey tells Joe Schad that he requested his release because the Dolphins did not want to work on an extension for him.

“I know my career isn’t over,” Pouncey said.

More big changes are coming to the Dolphins, who have already moved on from WR Jarvis Landry and DT Ndamukong Suh this offseason.

Pouncey, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2011. He was entering the fourth year of his six-year, $52.438 million contract that included $22 million guaranteed and is set to make base salaries of $7.97 million and $7.16 million over the next two years of the agreement.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Pouncey will free up $7 million of available cap space while creating $2 million in dead money.

In 2017, Pouncey appeared in all 16 games for the Dolphins and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 47 offensive tackle out of 85 qualifying players.
