Dez Bryant Reportedly Wanted Extension With Cowboys Done ASAP

News broke earlier in the day Cowboys WR Dez Bryant has fired his agent Eugene Parker and signed on with Jay Z’s Roc Nation, who will negotiate his next contract.

Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports reports that Bryant wanted a deal done with the Cowboys as soon as possible, but Parker felt like the Cowboys were low-balling his client with their offers.

According to Getlin, Parker wasn’t interested in having his name associated with a deal that was below what he felt Bryant’s market value really is.

Interestingly enough, Getlin spoke to a source that mentioned Cowboys owner Jerry Jones could be reluctant to do a deal for Dez with Roc Nation Sports representing him.

There is still the question of who specifically will ultimately negotiate Bryant’s next contract. Getlin mentions that he could hire an agent from CAA such as Tom CondonBen Dogra, or Jimmy Sexton. Roc Nation Sports has used CAA to negotiate contracts for players such as Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks and Ndamukong Suh while RNS handles their marketing.

It will be interesting to see if this change impacts contract negotiations with the Cowboys in the coming months.

Dallas appears to be willing to head into the offseason without a long-term deal in place given that they can use their franchise tag on Dez, which could run them close to $12.3 million for the 2015 season.

Bryant, 25, will be an unrestricted free agent following the season and has emerged as one of the best receivers in the game today. He stands to make just $1.78 million for the 2014 season.

This season, Bryant has caught 48 passes for 620 yards receiving and five touchdowns over the course of eight games. Pro Football Focus has Bryant rated as the No. 9 wide receiver in the league.

We have Bryant listed as the No. 3 player in our recently updated Top 25 – 2015 Free Agents list.
