Falcons In Contract Talks With LB Philip Wheeler About Return

Falcons HC Dan Quinn told reporters at the owners meeting on Wednesday that they are still negotiating a new deal with free agent LB Philip Wheeler, per D. Orlando Ledbetter.

There hasn’t been a lot of buzz regarding Wheeler since free agency opened three weeks ago.

Wheeler, 31, is a former third-round pick of the Colts back in 2008. He spent four years in Indianapolis before signing on with the Raiders as a free agent in 2012.

Wheeler lasted just one year in Oakland before he caught on with the Dolphins after he was cut loose. The Falcons elected to sign him to a contract during the season last year.

In 2015, Wheeler appeared in nine games for the Falcons and recorded 29 tackles, one sack, and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing 146 snaps last year.
