The Atlanta Falcons announced that they have released veteran TE Tony Gonzales on Tuesday.
Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff released a statment saying: “We wish Tony all the best in his television career and thank him for everything he did for this franchise.”
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that Gonzalez had a “substantial bonus” due on Thursday if he were to remain on the team’s roster.
Since the Gonzalez did not file retirement papers, he essentially forced them to make this move.
Gonzales, 38, has signed on as a CBS NFL Today analyst in recent months, so it appears as though his time in the NFL has now come to an end.
