Falcons Will Hold Retirement Ceremony For Michael Vick & Roddy White Next Week

The Atlanta Falcons announced Friday that they plan to honor Roddy White and Michael Vick in a special retirement press conference and reception to recognize the contributions to the organization.

“We consider all former Falcons to be Falcons for life, and part of our family,” Blank said. “Both men have made a huge impact on my family, our franchise and this city and we are thrilled to be able to honor both Roddy and Michael’s wishes to retire as Falcons, and celebrate their careers.”

The Falcons will not sign either player to a one-day contract, which is typically customary for these types of moves.

“We do not need a contract in place to consider them a part of our family and honor their decision to retire as a Falcon,” said Blank.

Vick, 36, is a former No. 1 overall pick of the Falcons back in 2001. He spent six years with the Falcons before he served 21 months in prison for his involvement in an illegal dogfighting ring.

Vick later got a second chance with the Eagles and played five seasons in Philadelphia. After that, Vick spent a season with the Jets and Steelers respectively.

For his career, Vick threw for 22,464 yards while completing 56.2 percent of his passes to go along with 133 touchdowns and 88 interceptions. He also totaled 6,109 yards rushing including a season in which he ran for over 1,000 yards.

Vick was a four-time Pro Bowl selection and won the Comeback Player of the Year in 2010.

White 35, is a former first-round pick of the Falcons back in 2005. He spent his entire 11-year NFL career with the Falcons.

Atlanta elected to release him last year and didn’t find much reported interest as a free agent and ultimately sat out the entire 2016 season.

For his career, White caught 808 passes for 10,863 yards receiving and 63 touchdowns for the Falcons over the course of 171 games. He was a four-time Pro Bowler and a first-team All-Pro during the 2010 season.
