Greg Schiano Staying At Ohio State, Despite Report He Was Leaving For Patriots

Bruce Feldman spoke with Greg Schiano, who told him that he plans to return to Ohio State next year, despite some recent reports he was going to take a position with the Patriots.

Zach Barnett of Football Scoop reported Monday that Schiano was expected to become the defensive coordinator the Patriots.

However, it appears as though the Patriots will likely to promote LBs coach Brian Flores to defensive coordinator, replacing Matt Patricia, who departed for the Lions’ head-coaching job.

Schiano, 51, began his college coaching career back in 1989 as a graduate assistant for Rutgers. Since then, Schiano worked at Penn State, Miami and for the Chicago Bears before he was hired as the Buccaneers head coach in 2012.

Schiano lasted two seasons in Tampa Bay before he was fired by the Buccaneers. After a few years out of college, Schiano was hired to run Ohio State’s defense last year.

A few months ago, Schiano actually agreed to a deal to become the next head coach at Tennessee before the school backed out of the deal, due to backlash they received from the move.

During his 11 years as Rutgers head coach, Schiano posted a record of 68-67 (50.4 percent) to go along with six bowl game appearances.
