Michael Vick Still Hoping To Play In 2016, Hopefully For A Contender

Free agent QB Michael Vick mentioned that he’s still hoping to play in the NFL this year, but would prefer to play for a contender.

“I’m going to continue to stay optimistic about my 2016 season and try to enjoy it,” Vick told Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer. “I wouldn’t say that I would go to any of the 32 teams. At this point in my career I would love to play for a contender. If anything, you’ve just got to be willing to make a contribution. In the NFL, that’s what it’s all about.”

ESPN analyst Phil Savage previously tossed out the Seahawks as a potential landing spot for Vick, considering that they could use a veteran backup.

“I look for Michael Vick to be in the mix,” Savage said. “To me, he would really fit this team in terms of the mobility, what he brings to the table, and he’d be a veteran presence behind Russell Wilson.”

Vick, 36, said a few weeks ago that he’s been working out and waiting for another opportunity with an NFL team with the hope of playing one more year .

“I haven’t officially retired,” Vick said on Monday,  via NJ.com. “As of right now, it’s pretty much at a stalemate type of thing. Just taking the days as it comes, but most importantly for me, I just have to continue to work out and train. I would love to play this year, suit up for another run at it. I still feel like I could play and there is a lot left in the tank.”

Although, Vick admitted that it would take the right offer and the right opportunity for him to return in 2016.

“It does matter getting the right offer. I don’t think at this stage you just jump right out there and then just take any opportunity even though if this is going to be my last year, which is what I feel like I’m leaning toward because of where I’m at in my life, I do want to suit up one more time, I do want to put the helmet on one more time,” Vick said. “I don’t want it to end the way it ended the last couple years.

In 2015, Vick appeared in five games for the Steelers and threw for 371 yards while completing 60.6 percent of his passes to go along with two touchdowns and an interception. He also contributed 99 yards rushing last year.
