NFLPA Holding Conference Call Tonight With Reps Regarding New Drug Policy

Rand Getlin of Yahoo Sports reports that the NFLPA is holding a conference call with player reps for each team tonight regarding the new drug policy.

• Albert Breer adds that the call will be to discuss a proposal that the union expects to receive from the NFL at some point today.
• According to Breer, this could lead to a vote.
• Jay Glazer reports that the new drug policy will go by the Olympic standards, which will allow new rules to be implemented much faster.
• Glazer adds the new program will reduce the fine for a second marijuana offense from four games down to two.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that the NFLPA will have all 32 player reps vote on Tuesday regarding a new drug policy.

• Mortensen adds that there has yet to be an agreement all issues being discussed, but they are close enough to bring it to a vote.
• Meanwhile, Ian Rapoport reports that there is a “tentative agreement” between the two parties.

The two sides reportedly were in negotiations all day working on an agreement that will include HGH testing. On top of that, this policy is expected to make “significant changes” to the limits for marijuana testing and expand neutral arbitration.

As for the topic of suspensions, Mortensen reports that the NFL has received complaints and concerns from owners regarding the possible reinstatement of players like Browns WR Josh Gordon and Broncos WR Wes Welker.

According to Mortensen, some owners are “displeased” that this agreement wouldn’t change the standing of their own suspended players.

Some had mentioned previously that the issue of lifting suspension could be a sticking point as all owners would want their players reinstated as part of the agreement.
