Potential TE Options For The Patriots

The Patriots have arguably the best tight end tandem in the league, but with Aaron Hernandez being a part of a murder investigation and the fact that Rob Gronkowski is coming off of multiple surgeries this offseason, the team is facing some major question marks at the position.

Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston tossed out a couple of names on Sunday for the Patriots to consider if feel that they’re in need of some additional talent at tight end.

According to Reiss, Dallas Clark and David Thomas are the two free agent options that the Pats are likely to consider.

Clark, 34, actually visited with the Patriots last year before he ultimately signed with the Buccaneers. He was able to more productive than many expected him to be at this point in his career.

With that being said, Clark is really one-dimensional tight end. His abilities as a receiver far outweigh his effectiveness as blocker.

Thomas, 29, spent a few seasons with the Patriots before departing for the New Orleans Saints.

According to Reiss, both players should be able to play the same position as that of Hernandez and also offer a great locker room presence.

It seems likely that New England’s front office will wait and what happens with Hernandez in the coming days before deciding whether or not to sign another tight end.
