Eagles Still Working To Trade Up For Marcus Mariota

Update:

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk passes along the latest rumor regarding the Eagles possibly trading up for QB Marcus Mariota.

  • Ed Werder has been told by sources that the Buccaneers are not discussing a trade with the Eagles for the No. 1 overall pick.

According to Florio, there’s talk that the Eagles could bypass the Titans at No. 2 overall and try to get a deal worked out with the Buccaneers, who hold the No. 1 overall pick.

Numerous reports have said that the Titans’ asking price is just too high for anyone to consider at this point, so the idea here is that the Eagles could offer Tampa Bay package of players and picks for the first pick in the draft.

Florio mentions that it remains unclear what it would take to get a deal done with the Buccaneers, but it’s clear that the Eagles are exploring all options to get their guy.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk confirms the reports that the Eagles are continuing to try and trade up to No. 2 overall for QB Marcus Mariota and are willing to trade QB Sam Bradford in order to make that happen.

However, Florio mentions that the key to doing so could be their ability to acquire the No. 12 overall pick.

Florio writes that the Eagles may have to part with more than just Bradford to get the No. 12 pick from Cleveland. According to Florio, there’s a chance that Philadelphia may have to take on the contract of quarterback Johnny Manziel.

  • Jim Wyatt reports that the Eagles are continuing to make a serious attempt to trade up to No. 2 overall.
  • ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio reports the Eagles are still trying “very hard” to trade up to for QB Marcus Mariota.
  • However, the Titans are reportedly asking for “the moon, the sun and the stars,” according to Paolantonio.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that the Eagles are “doing all they can” to trade up for Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.

There are specifics as to how high the Eagles are looking to move up or what other moves would need to made in order for Philadelphia to come away from the draft with the Heisman Trophy winner.

Earlier in the day, ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio (via Pro Football Talk) reported that members of Mariota’s camp believe the Chargers and Eagles are both attempting to trade up for him in this year’s draft.

Multiple reports have said that the Titans have spoke to a number of teams regarding the No. 2 overall, which really shouldn’t come as a surprise, but it’s hard to say if anything is close at this point in time.

One report said that the Browns had offered them their No. 12 and No. 19 overall picks for their first-round pick. However, reports have since refuted that Cleveland made a formal offer to Tennessee.

Philadelphia would most likely need to get creative to pull this off. There has already been talk that the Eagles have made LB Mychal Kendricks and CB Brandon Boykin available for trade, which could help them acquire the necessary assets to get a deal done with the Titans.

Although, it’s hard to say how plausible any of this.

We’ll have more updates regarding teams possibly trading up for Mariota as the news is available.
