Report: Rob Gronkowski Will Need A Fourth Surgery On His Forearm

Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reports that Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski will in fact need a fourth surgery to change a plate that was inserted after he suffered a broken forearm.

It was reported over the weekend that Gronkowski’s situation was in a holding pattern as they were hoping that antibiotic treatment would finally eliminate the infection in his left forearm.

Guregian’s source mentioned that the surgery has to happen. The plate in Gronkowski’s forearm needs to be replaced and doctors would like to get the surrounding tissue tested as well.

There’s a chance that Gronkowski may need a fifth surgery depending on whether or not the infection has been flushed out. If he needed another surgery after this, his 2013 season would obviously be in jeopardy. Doctors are reportedly hopeful that it won’t come to this and he’ll be able to begin his 11-week recovery period.
