Tom Brady Reportedly Dealing With Thumb Injury On Throwing Hand

Ian Rapoport reports that Patriots QB Tom Brady is specifically dealing with a thumb injury to his throwing hand. According to Rapoport, Brady’s hand was “gushing blood” when the injury happened but a source said that he was “zinging it pretty good today.”

Tom Curran reports that Brady’s right thumb is “messed up.” According to Curran, Brady’s thumb “bent back badly when he was smashed into by a running back” during practice this week and resulted in a cut that may have required stitches.

As of now, Curran says that Brady isn’t taking snaps from under center, but he’s able to work out of shotgun and can throw. Brady is obviously trying to not aggravate the thumb injury before Sunday’s game and Curran mentions that it’s possible he could get a shot of Toradol if he’s still dealing with issues.

Michael Felger of 98.5 The Sports Hub (per James Stewart) reported that Brady doesn’t have any fractures or ligament damage in his throwing hand. Felger says that Brady is dealing with just a cut from hitting the buckle on a teammates helmet in practice that required four stitches around his knuckle.

The Patriots officially list Brady as questionable this weekend after a limited practice on Friday.

Earlier in the week, Karen Guregian reported that Brady jammed his throwing hand at practice after accidentally being run into. However, X-rays later showed that Brady did not have any structural damage.

Brady, 40, is a former sixth-round pick of the Patriots back in 2000. He signed a two-year, $41 million contract extension with the Patriots back in 2016, which included a $28 million signing bonus. Brady stands to make a base salary of just $15 million in both 2018 and 2019.

In 2017, Brady appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots and threw for 4,577 yards while completing 66.3 percent of his passes to go along with 32 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 1 quarterback out of 39 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Brady as the news is available.
