Vaughn McClure of ESPN reports that veteran QB Rex Grossman is in Atlanta taking a physical for the Falcons.
Previous had said that the Falcons coaching staff would like to upgrade their backup quarterbacks position, as there’s some question as to whether or not T.J. Yates is really the team’s preferred option as Matt Ryan‘s backup.
Grossman, 34, previously found interest from the Browns several months ago, but ultimately passed on the opportunity.
Last we heard, he was dealing with an injury that he sustained during training and would need another few weeks to be ready. However, it sounds like the Jets were still willing to sign him to a contract.
Many have made the connection between Grossman and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in the past, so I guess you can’t completely rule out this possibility.
Grossman last appeared in an NFL game during the 2011 season when he was playing for the Redskins.
