Saints veteran TE Ben Watson confirmed that he has spoken to the team about a potential extension that would keep him in New Orleans.
โI had a good conversation with Seanย (Payton)ย and Mickey (Loomis), and I love the Saints organization,โ Watson said, via theย New Orleans Advocate. โIโd love to be playing there. If not there, weโll see where else. I think Iโll know more in about a month or so.โ
Watson also made it clear that he enjoys being in New Orleans and appreciates the support from the community and the Saints.
โI like beingย in New Orleans,โ ย Watson said. โI like the community. The organizationโs always treated me well, theyโve treated my family well, theyโve supported anything weโve done. Any charitable endeavor weโve done, theyโve supported it.โ
Watson, 35, is coming off of an impressive 2015 season and is in line to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months.
In 2015, Watson appeared in all 16 games for the Saints and recorded 74 receptions for 825 yards receiving and six touchdowns.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 56ย tight endย out of 73 qualifying players.
