49ers DL Ray McDonald Arrested For Domestic Violence

Update:

โ€”โ€”โ€”

Damian Trujillo of NBC Bay Area reports that 49ers DL Ray McDonald has been arrested for domestic violence charges.

  • Trujillo adds that the alleged victim is pregnant.
  • Mike Garafolo points out that Roger Goodell cited pregnant victims as criteria for a harsher punishment.
  • Matt Barrows reports Santa Clara Department of Correction records show that McDonald was booked this morning.
  • Sal Castaneda confirms the arrest and adds that there were other 49ers players present during the incident.

This news comes just a few days after the NFL announced new changes to their domestic violence policy which raised the amount of games a player will be suspended to six for a first-time offender. A repeat offender could possibly face a lifetime ban.

McDonald, 29, reworked his contract this past week to free up some extra cap space. He was entering the fourth year of his five-year, $20 million contract that included $7 million guaranteed before it was restructured and was set to make $3.5 million for the 2014 season.

Last year, McDonald appeared in 14 games and recorded 37 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and a pass defensed. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 22 defensive end in a 3-4 system last season.

Weโ€™ll have more details as the news is available.

  1. He had such little self-control that he committed this alleged assault in the presence of his teammates? Pitifulโ€ฆ

  2. Other 49ers were presentโ€ฆhmmm. WWGD. AND, weโ€™re STILL waiting on Goodell to PUNISH IRSAY for his DUI AND ILLEGAL PRESCRIPTION DRUGS ARREST!!!!!

    • Regarding Irsay, the NFL was waiting until the legal process played out before ruling, which is consistent with how they handle situations involving players.

The clock has started for a ruling from league now that Irsay has reached a deal with prosecutors.
