49ers Sign OT Donald Hawkins & TE Brian Leonhardt To Practice Squad

The San Francisco 49ers announced that they’ve signed OT Donald Hawkins and TE Brian Leonhardt to their practice squad.

Hawkins, 23, originally signed on with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Texas back in May of last year. He was unable to make the team’s final 53-man roster, but was later claimed the Browns.

His stay in Cleveland was short lived as he was once again cut and claimed off waivers by the Cowboys. Dallas elected to cut him loose shortly after this year’s draft, but he was claimed by the Dolphins.

Miami wound up waiving him off of their practice squad last week.

Hawkins has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Leonhardt, 25, wound up signing on with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Bemidji State back in 2013. He was unable to make the team’s 53-man roster coming out of the preseason that year, but later signed on to the team’s practice squad.

The Raiders elected to sign him to a one-year exclusive rights contract this past April, but Leonhardt was once again among their final roster cuts at the start of the season.

Leonhardt has yet to appear in an NFL game.
