Steelers Restructure WR Antonio Brown’s Contract

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.comย reports thatย a source has informed him that theย Steelers and WRย Antonio Brownย have agreed restructure his contract in orderย to create some extra cap space.

According to aย “source with knowledge of the transaction,”ย Browns base salary ofย $4.5 million has been reduced toย a minimum salary of $650,000. Pittsburgh will convert theย remaining $3.85 million into a signing bonus that will be prorated over the remaining five years on his contract.

Pittsburgh stands to gain $3.08 million in cap space with this move.

They recently restructured the contract of LB Lawrence Timmons, so the trend continues.ย The Steelers are reportedly working onย Ben Roethlisberger‘sย contract as well. This offers immediate help, but balloons their future cap commitments to the point where they could be in really bad shape if it’s not properly managed.
