Buffalo Billsย president Russ Brandon told reporters that he’s still hopeful that they will be able sign Sย Jairus Byrd to a long-term contract.
“I can’t wait for Jairus to get in here. Obviously he’s a great player and a guy we have a lot of respect for,โ said Brandon, via BuffaloBills.com. โOnce he’s here and we get through this year we want to try to continue the discussions and negotiations with (his agent) Eugene (Parker) and get him locked in long term.”
“He’s part of the core of this team,โ said Brandon. โHe’s a guy that was drafted here and developed here and we want to keep that development moving forward. He’s a great player and that’s something we’d really like to have here.”
The Bills are no longer able to negotiate a new contract with Byrd now that the deadline for franchised players has passed.
โObviously we want the player here and we want him to be a part of the future to give us an opportunity to continue to discuss and negotiate,” said Brandon. “Once we’re able to look at a long term agreement we’ll go ahead and keep working on that.”
We have Byrd listed as the No. 2 player in our Top 50 – 2014 Free Agents list.

To: Jarius, there is not much more I can say but you to get to St. John Fisher. You need to learn the new defensive plan. I can’t imagine how hard it is for you to sit out. You are a hard worker and have always proven your ability. Unfortunately, you need to do it again!
To: The BILLS, it is nice to hear how much you respect his efforts and ability. However, not knowing the details of the negotiations, I am under the impression that you deserve this holdout, because in my opinion you have not made a serious effort to resolve this issue sooner. Good luck, resolving this quickly in a fair an equitable manner.
