Jets Trading S Jamal Adams To Seahawks

Update:

Jamal Adams posted the following on his Twitter account regarding the trade to the Seahawks:

The Seahawks have already confirmed the trade for Jets S Jamal Adams

Here’s a statement from Jets GM Joe Douglas

Brian Costello of the New York Post is reporting that the Jets and Seahawks have agreed to a trade to send safety Jamal Adams to Seattle.

Here’s the trade breakdown:

Seahawks get:

  • S Jamal Adams
  • 2022 4th-rd pick

Jets get:

  • 2021 1st-rd pick
  • 2022 1st-rd pick
  • 2021 3rd-rd pick
  • S Bradley McDougald

The trade is, of course, pending physicals.

This comes just a day after Adams was critical of Jets HC Adam Gase and GM Joe Douglas.

The Seahawks happen to be one of the eight teams Adams said he would be interested in playing for including the Buccaneers, 49ers, Chiefs, Cowboys, Eagles, Ravens, and Texans.

The Jets had told Adams that they did not want to trade him away and that they were opening to signing him to a long-term extension. However, New York maintained that they would move him for the right deal.

Seattle clearly stepped up with a very serious offer. It will be interesting to see if they open extension talks with Adams or already have a deal close to done.

Adams, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Jets back in 2017. He just finished the third year of his four-year contract worth $22,256,084, which includes a signing bonus of $14,326,244.

The Jets exercised Adams’ fifth-year option before the draft, which will cost them $9.86 million for the 2021 season. This figure is guaranteed for injury only and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extension in the next year or so.

In 2019, Adams appeared in 14 games for the Jets and recorded 75 tackles, 6.5 sacks, one interception, two forced fumbles, one recovery, two defensive touchdowns and seven pass defenses.
