Rams Trading LB Alec Ogletree To Giants For Two 2018 Draft Picks

Adam Schefter reports that the Rams are trading LB Alec Ogletree and a 2019 seventh-round pick to the Giants for 2018 fourth-round pick and sixth-round picks.

  • Ian Rapoport confirms the news and adds that the Rams offered Ogletree to the Chiefs previously but they declined to do a deal for him.
  • Tom Pelissero points out that Ogletree has a $7 million guaranteed roster bonus due next week, a $3 million base salary for 2018 and a $6 million roster bonus in 2019 that’ll be fully guaranteed next week.

It’s interesting to see the Giants trade for linebacker, considering that the prior regime didn’t value the position all that much. However, it’s clear that things are changing now that Dave Gettleman is in place as the Giants’ GM.

Ogletree, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Rams back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $7.03 million contract but had his fifth-year option picked up last year.

Olgetree later signed a  five-year, $42.29 million contract with the Rams last October.

In 2017, Olgetree appeared in 15 games for the Rams and recorded 95 tackles, two sacks, an interception returned for a touchdown, a forced fumble, a recovery and 10 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 76 linebacker out of 87 qualifying players.
