Denver Broncos presidentย John Elway has already mentioned that Tim Tebow has done enough to be the teamโs starting quarterback heading into training camp. While it may seem as though that’s a strong vote of confidence, the fact that he choose to say training camp and not the start of the season suggests that there’s a strong possibility that Tebow will have competition in place next year.
Elway was pretty forthcoming about the team’s plans for the position at the Senior Bowl.
โWe will be in the market to find more quarterbacks,โ Elway told theย Denver Post.ย โThatโs our approach with Tim being our starter as we go to training camp, that weโll look at free agency and the draft.โ
Elway even mentioned that he’s looking for a “big athlete who can throw the ball from the pocket” which seems to be the exact opposite of Tim Tebow. It’ll be interesting to see to what extent he’s willing to go to bring in competition at the position. Denver could use their first-round pick on a quarterback depending on how the top portion of the draft plays out or he could look to a later round.

I understand why they will be looking for another QB, its plainly obvious..although I wonder why they want a pocket passer and not another Tebow style QB..Wouldn’t learning only one offense be much better for the whole team? That way they could interchange and have a lot more options? Imagine having said new qb and tebow on the field at the same time (obviously one lined up at like H-Back.) It would reek havoc on D.ย Coordinatorsย
I couldn’t agree with you more on this. There’s no way Brady Quinn could have stepped in for Tebow and ran the team’s offense seamlessly. Denver’s receivers had already adjusted blocking more than a normal offense requires and Tebow’s ability to make plays out of the pocket had to impact their routes.
Last week we posted a report that mentioned that the Panthers were considering drafting Russell Wilson because he could run the same offense that they designed for Cam Newton.
The Broncos will have to decide what direction their going in regards to their offensive scheme and look to build continuity. Either you’re going with a Tebow-offense or not. Trying to do both of them simultaneously only hampers the teamโs progress.
