Browns Potential Landing Spot For QB Chase Daniel?

Jason La Canfora expects the Browns to pursue QB Chase Daniel at the start of free agency next month.

La Canfora explains that Cleveland will need a strong veteran backup to help Baker Mayfield next year and he believes it would make a lot of sense for them to target Daniel to fill this role.

Daniel, 33, originally signed on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri back in 2010. He spent three years in New Orleans before signing on with the Chiefs in 2013.

After three years in Kansas City, Daniels signed a three-year, $21 million contract that included $12 million guaranteed with the Eagles in 2016. However, the Eagles released Daniel a year later and he eventually returned tot he Saints.

The Bears signed Daniel to a two-year deal worth up to $10 million in 2018.

In 2019, Daniel appeared in three games for the Bears and completed 70.3 percent of his passes for 435 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

  1. Daniels is a lot better qb than most give him credit for. I was a huge fan when Philly signed him. He is a starting caliber qb, but definitely at a point where his only path to starting is through injury to a starter ahead of him. The Bears probably should have let him retain the starting job last season under the guise of Trubisky needing more time to rehab. He led the Bears to a win after taking over for Trubisky and nearly beat the Raiders as well.
