According to Rick Stroud, the Buccaneers will elevate CB Ross Cockrell and WR Josh Pearson from the practice squad to the active roster for Thursday night’s game against the Bears.
Both players can go back to the practice squad after the game without needing to pass through waivers. Teams can use that mechanism on each player twice this season.
Cockrell, 29, is a former fourth-round pick of the Bills back in 2014 but was waived after one year. The Steelers signed him shortly after and later traded him to the Giants for a 2018 seventh-round pick.
Cockrell wound up signing a two-year, $6.8M deal with the Panthers in March of 2018 and finished out his contract.
In 2019, Cockrell appeared in 14 games and recorded 62 total tackles, three tackles for loss, two interceptions, and eight pass defenses.
