Chargers Signing QB Geno Smith

Adam Schefter reports that former Jets and Giants QB Geno Smith has reached an agreement with the Los Angeles Chargers on a one-year contract Sunday.

Last week, Ian Rapoport reported that Chargers HC Anthony Lynn has been a fan of Smith over the years and it looks like Smith and Cardale Jones will get an opportunity to compete for the backup job behind Philip Rivers.

It’s worth mentioning that the Seahawks recently met with Smith.

Smith, 27, is a former second-round pick of the Jets back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $5.019 million contract before signing a one-year contract worth $2 million with the Giants last year.

Smith was once again testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

In 2017, Smith appeared in two games for the Giants and completed 21 of 36 pass attempts (58.2 percent) for 212 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.
