Chicago Bears Schedule Back-Up QB Workouts

The Chicago Tribune’s Dan Pompei reports that the Chicago Bears plan to work out former No. 1-overall draft pick JaMarcus Russell Friday.

Russell, who has been in the media lately for financial issues and substance problems, appears to have drawn interest from Bears head coach Marc Trestman and could help solidify the quarterback depth chart behind Jay Cutler.

In addition to Russell, Pompei reports two other players from the 2007 NFL Draft – Trent Edwardsย and Jordan Palmer – will also get try outs with Chicago.

Pompei does not believe that the Bears would sign any of the three currently, but speculates the franchise might be more interested in knowing what’s available in an emergency role during the season.
