Chiefs HC Andy Reid announced on Monday that second-round rookie S Juan Thornhill has a torn ACL, per Herbie Teope.
Thornhill suffered the injury in Kansas City’s regular-season finale and will miss the playoffs, as well as potentially some time next season given the typical recovery timeframe of one year.
Thornhill has been a standout player for the Chiefs’ defense this season, so this is a major blow to the secondary.
Thornhill, 24, was taken with the No. 63 overall pick in the second round by the Chiefs out of Virginia. He signed four-year, $4,615,266 rookie contract that included a $1,376,556 signing bonus.
In 2019, Thornhill appeared in all 16 games for the Chiefs and recorded 58 tackles, three interceptions, one defensive touchdown and five passes defended.
