Clarence Hill Jr. reports that the Cowboys are hiring former Vikings DC George Edwards as their linebackers coach. Hill says that Edwards will have a large role on the team’s staff than just that.
- Tom Pelissero adds that Edwards will be a senior analyst for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys just recently brought Edwards in for an interview and it appears as though he was impressive enough to earn a spot on Mike McCarthy’s staff.
Edwards had been with the Vikings for the past six seasons before he was allowed to leave following the expiration of his contract a few weeks ago.
Edwards, 52, began his coaching career back in 1991 as an assistant at Florida. He worked for a few colleges before accepting the LBs coaching job with the Cowboys in 1998.
Since then, Edwards has worked for a number of NFL teams including the Redskins, Browns, Dolphins and Bills before the Vikings hired him as their defensive coordinator in 2014.
In 2019, the Vikings’ defense ranks No. 14 in yards allowed, No. 6 in points allowed, No. 14 in rushing yards allowed, and No. 16 in passing yards allowed.
