Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com reported last night that veteran quarterback Jon Kitna will retire from the NFL.
This news isnโt all that surprising considering that Kitna had been suggesting that it could for some time now but the move still leaves Dallas thin at quarterback. Obviously Tony Romo will be starting for the team next season but Stephen McGee is the teams only backup option at this point. McGee did manage to put together a pretty solid outing against the Eagles this year where he completed 24-of-38 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown.
If the Cowboys elect to grab someone from the free agent market they would have plenty of possibilities. Brady Quinn, Vince Young and Chad Henne should all be in contention for backup jobs and others such David Garrard, Derek Anderson, Shaun Hill, Sage Rosenfels, David Carr and Luke McCown could draw interest but come with some serious question marks.
Iโd be surprised if they didnโt give McGee an opportunity to win the job but adding another option shouldnโt ruled out.
