Cowboys Sign Former Olympian DL Lawrence Okoye

Todd Archer reports that the Cowboys have signed DL Lawrence Okoye to a contract on Wednesday.

This comes just a day after he was among seven players who tried out for the Cowboys.

Okoye just recently became available, so it didn’t take long for him to secure another opportunity in the NFL.

Okoye, 24, originally signed on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent back in 2013. He was considered to be a developmental project, seeing as he was a former rugby and track star.

Okoye spent a little over two years in San Francisco before he was waived at the start of the 2015 season and later added to the Cardinals practice squad.

The Jets elected to make Okoye an offensive lineman upon adding him to their practice squad last year and brought him back on a future/reserve contract in January. However, they waived him last week to make room for DE Shelby Harris.

Okoye has yet to appear in an NFL game.
