According to Mike Garafolo, the Eagles are expected to allow LT Jason Peters to test the open market this year.
The Eagles released the following statement via their Twitter:
— Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) March 5, 2020
Peters has played the past 11 seasons with the team at an extraordinarily high level, but Philadelphia drafted his heir, OT Andre Dillard, in the first round last year.
Garafolo says the two sides will stay in contact, but given the dearth of quality left tackles in the NFL, there’s a good chance Peters is playing elsewhere in 2020.
Peters said last month he wanted to return to the Eagles and plans to play in 2020.
“I told ’em I wanted to play another year. I still can get it done,” Peters said via Les Bowen. “If I couldn’t get it done, I’d just walk away, but I can still go.”
Peters, 38, originally signed on with the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas back in 2004. He spent five years in Buffalo before being traded to the Eagles in 2009.
Peters signed a four-year, $53 million extension in Philadelphia after the trade. Last year, Peters signed another one-year extension worth $6 million for the 2019 season.
In 2019, Peters started 13 games for the Eagles at left tackle. He was Pro Football Focus‘ No. 6-ranked tackle out of 83 qualifying players.
We have Peters listed in our Top 100 2020 Free Agents list.
