According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the expectation around the league is that the Giants will fire HC Pat Shurmur at the end of the season.
Raanan adds that Giants GM Dave Gettleman could also be in trouble with New York’s struggles this season.
Despite pitching the idea that the team could be competitive this year, the Giants under Shurmur and Gettleman are 2-11 in 2019 and just dropped their ninth-straight game.
Shurmur’s record since being hired by the Giants in 2018 is 7-22. The Giants fired their previous coach, Ben McAdoo, after a 13-15 record in two seasons.
Shurmur, 54, began his NFL coaching career with the Eagles in 1999 as their tight ends and offensive line coach. He was promoted to QBs coach before departing to become the offensive coordinator of the Rams in 2009.
Mike Holmgren hired Shurmur as the Browns head coach a few years later but he lasted just two seasons in Cleveland. After a few years with the Eagles, the Vikings hired him as their tight ends coach in 2016 and he worked his way up to offensive coordinator.
As a head coach for the Browns, Giants and one game as interim for the Eagles, Shurmur has amassed a career record of 17-45 (.274 win %).
