According to Adam Schefter, the Giants are hiring Patriots ST coach Joe Judge as their next head coach.
Schefter writes the Giants were working on a deal with Judge last night, which is part of the reason their reported top candidate, Baylor HC Matt Rhule, took the job in Carolina.
Ian Rapoport reports that Judge will take the Giants job over an offer to become the head coach at Mississippi State, his alma mater.
Judge, 37, began his coaching career at Mississippi State back in 2005 as a graduate assistant. He spent three years in that role before being hired by Birmingham-Southern as their linebackers coach for the 2008 season.
From there, Judge was hired as Alabama’s special teams assistant before taking the same position on the Patriots’ staff three years later. Judge worked his way up to special teams coordinator in 2015 and has been in the position since.
Judge’s special teams unit in New England ranked 11th in 2019 per Football Outsiders.
