Giants Will Host RB Devonta Freeman For Visit

According to Ian Rapoport, the Giants are hosting free-agent RB Devonta Freeman for a visit. 

Freeman has been biding his time waiting for the right opportunity with salary and role and it looks like that patience could finally pay off. The Giants are in need of a new starting running back after Saquon Barkley‘s knee injury and have more than $15 million in available cap space. 

Freeman recently told Josina Anderson that he was currently choosing between signing with one of four unnamed teams. He was visiting with the Eagles this past weekend. 

“I’m ready for whatever team needs a vet,” Freeman said.

Freeman hired Drew Rosenhaus as his new agent back in July and was looking to sign soon after. 

“We want to work out a deal in the immediate future, and we are open to any team,” Rosenhaus said at the time. “He’s healty, he’s in shape, and I’m on a mission to have him give a team a lift in late July.”

Freeman’s prior agent, Kristin Campbell, notified him that she terminated their relationship a few weeks ago after he turned down a contract from the Seahawks, who later signed Carlos Hyde.

Michael Silver reported a few months ago that the Jets, Eagles and Jaguars were among the teams that have expressed interest in Freeman.

Freeman, 28, is a former fourth-round pick of the Falcons back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $2.7 million contract when he and the Falcons agreed to a five-year, $41.25 million extension that included $22 million guaranteed.

Freeman stood to make base salaries of $6.5 million and $6.3 million over the next two years of the agreement when the Falcons released him this offseason. 

In 2019, Freeman appeared in 14 games and rushed for 656 yards on 184 carries (3.6 YPC) and two touchdowns to go along with 59 receptions for 410 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
