Jaguars Starting Blake Bortles In Week 17

On Wednesday, Jaguars HC Doug Marrone confirmed that Blake Bortles will start their season finale against the Texans.

“We just feel like his mobility will give us a better chance,” Marrone said, per Phillip Heilman.

The Jaguars had been starting Cody Kessler the past few weeks, but it was clear that the offense wasn’t getting any better.

Reports have said that the Jaguars are prepared to move on Bortles next year, so this could very well be his final game in Jacksonville.

Bortles, 26, was taken with the No. 3 overall pick by the Jaguars back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $20,654,796 rookie contract when the Jaguars picked up his fifth-year option.

However, Jacksonville elected to sign Bortles to a three-year, $54 million contract that included $26.5 million guaranteed this past offseason.

In 2018, Bortles has appeared in 12 games for the Jaguars and completed 60.8 percent of his passes for 2,611 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He has also rushed for 350 yards and a touchdown.
